I forget I have this blog.

It's true! I forget that I have this awesome blog to update my many followers, haha. ;)

Well, what to update on...

Ummmm....

THE 2000 is going really well! MUCH better than I expected. I've actually been able to lecture for as long as the class is! :) A whole hour & 15 minutes of me jabbering on about theatre. It's actually quite remarkable when I run out of time & have to spill into the next class.
I hope they're learning. Learning something. Or able to apply what they've learned to something they like in their lives. Or don't like. Whatever.

I'm housesitting for Charlie & Audrey and that's been super fun! They have a sweet nugget of a cat, Tito, & he's a big fan of my Toms. Haha. I've got these burlap Toms that go with everything & he loves to rub his face up against them. I think he's a fan of the texture. Super cute.
By the way, Toms is #1 in my book right now, as far as companies giving back. They've got this awesome One-For-One program. So, when I buy a pair of Toms, they give a pair of shoes to a child in need in Africa, for example. They're doing this new program called One-For-One Eyesight. The shades bought are pretty pricey for a poor grad. student like yours truly, but the money goes towards a person's glasses, eye treatment, or surgery! It's very inspiring. Check them out at: www.toms.com/eyewear/our-movement for more info!

All right, that's it. I should go & be more productive. Rereading Fences since I'm lecturing on that on Monday!

Finished the first week of Summer B!

And here we go again.... 2nd half of summer teaching has commenced!

School started on Monday. Been so so SO busy. I'm teaching Theatre Appreciation this term, which was stressing me out like WHOA. But I worked really hard & put together lectures that actually made some sense (haha) & now the first week is OVER! so proud. whew!

My students this term are really cool. It's interesting to pick out who's tuning in & who's zoning out. Caught a kid sleeping in the front row, haha. But I think it's safe to say they ALL think I'm cray-cray.

4th of July weekend this weekend! It's a nice long weekend, which I'm STOKED for. Tomorrow, we're hitting the beach. Not sure what we'll do on Monday to celebrate, but hopefully it'll involve grilling...

Be safe & happy this weekend!

lazy Sunday

FINALLY sleeping in, after an action-packed weekend. A LOT has happened this week:
  1. Teched, Opened, & Closed Oedipus
  2. Got into the Summer Dance Intensive!!! yay
  3. Beach yesterday. I just want to live on the beach.
  4. Karaoke last night.
It doesn't seem like a lot, but it feels like a lot. I guess the amount of pictures I uploaded onto facebook make me feel like I've done a lot.

The beach yesterday was gorgeous. Joshua, Davida, Katie, & myself went, along with Ryan & his girl, Chelsea. It was fun having a new dynamic on the beach. We missed Wayne though!
Yellow flags greeted us upon arrival again, which meant that the rip current was pretty strong. I thought it was strong the last time we were there, but it seemed even stronger this time!
I bought this awesome beach umbrella with a stand that digs a hole into the sand & it turned out to be a pretty sweet investment. Only $30.00 for 7.5 feet of shade, haha.
I just LOVE spending time with friends. These people are my family here, so it's great to bond in this way, in such a stunning place.

Oedipus went really well. I really enjoyed doing this show. The process from beginning to end was fun & not a chore to be a part of. Yanci is an inspiration & I'm very thankful I got to work with him as a director. Hopefully that won't be the last show with him before I graduate!

Last week of ORI is this week. And then I'm on to Summer B & Theatre Appreciation. Sigh. I gotta get my stuff together & organize this class!

OEDIPUS, KING!

In tech rehearsal for Oedipus this week. I actually really like this show. I'm proud of the work I've done & I'm just stoked I get my own lines, haha. I know, it doesn't matter how many lines an actor has, but it just rocks when I do get to speak all by myself!

Cross your fingers for me!:
I am trying to get into the Dance Intensive that's happening Summer B. I'm hoping it'll count towards my Summer Rep credits. I just need one more thing to satisfy it & dancing would be a dream come true! I already emailed the lead professor, so hopefully she says yes!

an early Saturday morning

waking up early
too excited to sleep now
might nap later on

My friend & colleague, Katie, turned me onto haikus. Now I'm obsessed & make them up all the time. My facebook statuses are littered with haikus! It's just a fun way to express myself, when conventional sentences don't adequately communicate my state of mind.

I'm doing well right now. Oedipus opens on Wednesday, but we haven't been in rehearsal lately due to technical rehearsals & the opening of Romeo & Juliet. We had an impromptu rehearsal today & one today, so hopefully we'll get our act together by Monday, our first tech.

I'm super pumped for this production! We tell a familiar story in a refreshing way. I just hope my vocal work shines through. Yanci, my words-can't-describe-how-amazing-he-is voice professor, is the director of this production & he's pushed me to work harder for my voice.

In other news... Still teaching ORI. That class is finished June 16th. And then I'm slated to teach Theatre Appreciation, which I'm super nervous for... SIGH. It's a lecture class & survey course. So, it's intimidating to take on so much material. But I'll pull it off somehow.

ORI is going well. I'm learning a lot about how I want to structure the class for the future. I'm stoked because their Final is going to Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, which I think will be fun for them. I hope so anyway!

Memorial Day Weekend!

I wish I could have 4 day weekends all the tiiiiime.

I'm becoming addicted to the beach. That's the only place I want to go to. I feel like I plan my days so that I make time for the beach! haha. We've only been twice this summer, but I already can't wait for the next time we go back!

It's been really great hanging out & bonding with friends. It's also been really awesome being so lazy. I love Netflix. I'm watching films & tv shows that I should have watched a long time ago.... haha. Getting all caught up on my pop culture!

Teaching is going all right. I was super stoked about it at the beginning of the term, but now... it's like I've learned that the students are just not as stoked about the material as I am. So it's getting a little difficult to be as excited as I was before. But we'll see what this week brings.

summmmmeeerrrrrrr.....

Yay for summer! I've finally finished my 1st year & have made it to being a SECOND YEAR. oh em gee.

Summer is going super well. Right now, I'm teaching ORI (Oral Interpretation of Literature) & teaching 5 students, which is actually really awesome. I thought it might be awkward having a small class, but it's really great. They get more individual focus. I teach ORI next year, 3 times a week for 50 minutes each, so I'm wary of how I'm gonna pull off teaching this class. 50 minutes will FLY BY.

But let's not focus on that. I have a few more weeks with these kids, so I'll make the most of it!

That's been a goal of mine this summer: Live in the present.

Other goals:
  • READ! I've borrowed like 20 books from the library, haha. I also want to read more novels. Plays can get so mind-numbing after a while.
  • GET FIT! Joshua is my coach when it comes to fitness & I'm actually not resisting working out as much as I used to. In fact, after this, I'm gonna go out for a run. :)
  • BLOG. & be consistent. haha. Let's see how long I keep this up.
  • EXPLORE. All year I haven't explored all that FL has to offer. Well, as much as possible, anyway. Josh & I did go to Orlando, but I have yet to visit DisneyWorld & Harry Potter Land. BUT we did go to the beach last weekend, which was AMAZING. That picture above is from the beach. oh em gee. I've never seen such white sand & such a beautiful beach.
Florida is truly beautiful.
& I am so blessed to be here!

This summer, I'm acting in Oedipus in the Chorus & as a featured servant. I'm pretty stoked. It's been a lot of fun so far. We also need to put on another play during Summer B, so we'll see what else is in store for me this summer!

The Summer sessions are split into 3 categories here at UF: Summer A is the first half of the summer, Summer B is the 2nd half, and Summer C is both halves together. I know, it seems odd. But whatev. I've learned to just go with the flow here.

Well, gotta go head out for my run before it gets too hot. Then later, Oedipus rehearsal! :)

Josh & I happy at the beach [Fort Matanzas]!

My girls & me: Katie & Dee! But we're missing our other grad. sister, Jaz. Next time!
